Sardines
Anticancer. Bone health. Brain health. Cardiovascular health. Like salmon, sardines are a great source of omega-3s. An interesting Dutch study of 1,613 forty-five- to seventy-year-olds analyzed their diet and gave them cognition tests over a five-year period. Those who ate the highest amounts of fish-based omega-3s scored best; those whose diets tilted toward saturated fats and cholesterol consumption fared worse. Sardines are also rich in vitamin D, which helps ward off certain cancers, and vitamin B12, which helps maintain strong bones.
